Mount Eden is the highest in Auckland, with its 50m deep crater it’s certainly something to behold.
Mount Victoria is probably has one of the more iconic views of the city skyline, looking directly on to the CBD, at night it is a great view.
Take a trip up to Goat Island marine reserve and check out all the amazing sea life that lives in abundant at this amazing coastal spot.
It’s not actually an island so no need to take a boat with you. However you can hire clearyaks nearby which allow you kayak without getting wet (hopefully!) and still see the glorious sea life that swims below you.
Why Not Go To The Beach?
If you’re looking for things to do in Auckland for free then the beach has to be one of your top choices. There are hundreds of beaches in and around Auckland so you have plenty to choose from. Each slightly different than the other.
There is so much to do (depending on weather) that a trip to the beach is always a good choice when in Auckland.
Hit The Trails! Go For A Walk
An easy, free option. There are sooo many walking trails around Auckland, from the Waitakeres to the Hunua ranges. Or maybe take a walk through the city and explore the many vibrant cafes, restaurants and shops that are on your doorstep.
Visit A Museum
The Auckland war memorial museum is free to Auckland residents and charge a small fee for non-residents/visitors. It’s a great way to spend a few hours learning more about Auckland and New Zealand. Perfect for a rainy day!
Cycle The Pink Bike Trail
The Pink Bike Path or Nelson Street cycleway is an iconic central city loop that takes you through Auckland CBD. Another free thing to do in Auckland that will also keep you fit and get you exploring more of the city.
